The report of the apiary instructor (Mr Jacobsen) is that the honey crop prospects in the Wellington district are very satisfactory. The Minister of Defence has received a cablegram from the Officer Commanding the 19th Reinforcements. The health of the troops is reported to be excellent. It is reported that potato-stealing is prevalent in the Waimato district. Tho thieves burrow under the plautj remove the potatoes, and fill up the hole, leaving the plant in appearance as if it had never been tampered with. • A few days ago (states the Christchurch Press) two young Germans, who have uncles in the Waiinate district, but whose parents reside in Germany, were arrested in Christchurch for tailing to report themselves to the authorities, and taken for internment to Somes Island, Wellington harbour. "The land values are simply an outrage iv some parts of New Zealand," observed the Chairman (Mr Justice Hosking) at the sitting of the LeaseHolds Commission in Wellington.
