STARVATION IN SYRIA AND JERUSALEM.
AWFUL STATE OF AFFAIRS.
(Received January 20, 9.45 a.m.) Rome, January 19. Official information has been ceived that 110,000 persons died from hunger in Syria. Hundreds of exiiaueted inhabitants are everywhere beimj picked up in the streets. There have been numberless suicides at Jerusalem, attributable to starvation. The conditions are indescribable. People are eating earth and filth. The apostolic delegate at Constantinople is giving aid, in the Pope's name.
