Feilding Star, Oroua and Kiwitea Counties' Gazette. FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 1916. WAR LOAN MEETING.

The Mayor's, appeal to the people of Feilding and district to assemble in the Drill Hall at 7.30 o'clock this evening to consider the War Loan should result in a strong rally. Mr. Ongley is calling the meeting at the request of the Finance Minister, with the object of arousing special interest in raising the sinews of war. The following is the text of the official message sent out by the-Ministers to all Mayors in the Dominion.

"It would, be of great assistance in connection with tlie War Loan if you could arrange to hold a public meeting, at which you yourself and other speakers might urge the necessity of the public taking up investments. All money-order offices throughout the Dominion will be kept open from 7 to 8.30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday .next for the purpose of receiving applications for investments. I am sure that you will be only too pleased to help the Dominion in "its new venture. —J. G. AVard."

The appeal is to the man, woman, and child who has only a few pounds put by in the Post Office Savings Bank and to the wealthy farmer whose profits on wool or meat or dairy produce have accumulated into thousands of pounds which are lying idle in a private bank. Such people get a splendid return for £1 or £1000 or £10,000 invested in the War Loan, and at the same timo they aro providing tho means for carrying on the loan to a successful issue. Just what the man or woman of means will reap in the way of financial gain by such an investment is set out in the large advertisement published on page 4 of. today's Stab. Prospective investors in these war bonds are urged to make their application at once, as the offer closes next Monday. If the investor does not want to tie up his or her money in war bonds for 14 years—although the compound-interest terms will double his investment in that timo —he or she can take up certificates for the five-year period. The holder of small sums that can be spared for the purchase of certificates should study the following little table, which shows how much profit comes for the small investment •—

Never was such an attractive proposition combined with patriotic self-de-nial laid before the people of New Zealand. But ,then, this is a recordbreaking war; and those who sj>ay at home should show that they can help cast the silver bullets, whilst thensons, brothers, and sweethearts are" pouring shot and shell and fixing bayonets against the foe at the other end of the world. Hear what Mayor Ongley and the other spakers have to say to-night, then march to the Post Office and plump for the War Loan.
