CANADA'S GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
WHY NOT THE PRINCE OF
WALES?
London, June 24. The Colonial Office issues the follow ing announcement: —
"On tbe outbreak of war FieldMarshal his Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught who was about to relinquish his duties as Governor-General of Canada, after an extended period of three years, agreed, with bis Majesty's approval, to remain in ollice. His Royal Highness, having completed tho .lull term of five years in the beginning ol' October next, has bi« .Majesty's sanction to return to Kngland. Prior to the war, his Majesty had approved the appointment of hi.--Serene Highness Prince Alexander of Teck to succeed tho Duke of Connaught. As the Prince is now on active service, he feels that it is impossible to relinquish his military duties at the present juncture, and in those circumstances his Majesty has been pleased to excuse his Serene Higbnesp from taking up the appointment ol Governor-General."
