CONDENSED MILK.
SHORTAGE IN SYDNEY
BIG SHIPMENTS BLOCKED
Sydney, July 2G. Enormous shipments of condensed milk that have reached Sydney during tho past few weeks aro hold up by the Customs authorities.
On Mcllwraith's wharf, at Miller's Point, there arc stacked 13,000 cases containing 614,000 tins, all of which came recently from America.
The Ventura, which arrived to-day, has another 600,000 tin's, which have also been held up.
At present it is _ difficult to purchase condensed milk, and grocers who have a little in stock reserve it for the use of their regular customers, and even then the salo is limited to ono tin. It was to meet this shortage that the big shipments were sent from America.
It is -understood that the owners of
the milk vigorously combat the contention of the Customs that it should not ho admitted, and thata Customs inquiry on the noint will involve important legal questions.
