This afternoon's despatch from the war correspondents at the British Headquarters give fuller details of the result-of the heavy bombardment of last night. The British and An/.ac troops delivered an attack .towards Pozieres and Guillemont Notwithstanding the enemy's desperate resistance, the An7,ncs succeeded in establishing themselves at Pozieres. where they are now consolidating their line. It is reported that their casualties were comparatively light. AA'estward of this village the British also successfully advanced. They found that the ' wire ontan.gjcniciits upon the right of Pozieres were insufficiently destroyed. Consequently, the British progress was checked by heavy machine-gun fire. Despite this. We gained a footing at Guillemont; billowing to a determined .counterattack, we Avere unable to maintain our advance. Progress upon the whole, lunvever. continues satisfactory, especially in the neighbourhood of "Pozieres, also along the road running from the village north-westward, unon which our troops are reported to be established.
