FOOTBALL.
FEILDING TECH v. PALMERSTON HIGH SCHOOL. Tho principal Rugby game -on Saturday was that played between the above teams. It was High School's! one desire to meet the Techs, on dr.y grotind, and needless to say their wish wa.s gratified. Their pack appeared to bo slightly superior to the Tech's and a Jot of play fell to the 'Tech backs, who handled' the ball well. The game opened with High School attacking, their pack breaking through with the ball. In it tho Tech backs were equal to the occasion and returned the ball up the line. High School, agaiu attacked, their pack taking the ball through at the toe, but a- good line kick by G. Wilson brought the play well up the field. Open play followed when High School again attacked with a-dribbling rush, and they soon had their opponents on the run, but C. Fade at fullback saved with a kick to the line. The Techs were here awarded a freekick which brought the play into midfield. High School again attacked, forcing the leather up-fiold, and their opponents were again in immediate danger, but good line-kicking on the part of the Techs brought the play up-field again, the backs taking the game into their hands and throwing the ball about freely. H. Morris, at tving-threequarter, who was playing a great game, receiving the ball, made i good run, but was grounded within a few yards of tho gpal lino. High School 'resumed the attack with a well-judged kick and followed up with tho pack iv close attendance, but the Techs we're able to save with a force lown. High School continued the attack, but the Techs took the ball up-fielil with a dribbling rush and getting close to tho ehaflt line made things willing, and G. Wilson receiving the ball scored a fine try between the posts. He.received a great ovation. J. James failed to convert, the ball going just under the. bar. The Techs had considerably the better of the s6cond spell, which was opened with forward play, and heartened by their temporary success romped into the business of the game, maintaining a strong offensive. Thoy soon had their opponents on th ertin, but Dillon saved with a fine line kick. The Techs again attacked, forcing the leather up field, and they again had their opponents on the run, but DilHigh School wero able to save with a force down. High School now sent the ball well up field, and setting their backs in motion made things willing, but the Tech backs set up a good defence and returned the ball up the line. A good kick across tho field by the Techs brought tho play well into High School's twenty-five, and following up they soon had their opponents busy, but the ball went out within a few yards of the goal line. High School sent the ball across the field," their forwards, getting well on the ball, but the' Techs, sent the leather to the line. Tho Techs, now attacked, find again had their opponents hard pressed, and L. Bramwell, making a good effort, scored just outside the posts. J. James converted. The Techs, continued the offensive, tho whole pack going into action with a dribbling rush, but Jewell, at halfback, returned the ball up the line. The Techs, again attacked, making things willing, the hall going out- to .1. Snooner, who made a good run. but was brought down within a lew yards of' tho goal. High School nowattacked, their forwards taking the bid! iin the field, and making things l : velv. had their opponents hard pressed, but the Techs, wived with a good line kick. Tho whistle sounded iiuined.'atelv the final scores standing: Feilding 8, High School 0. Mr A. AY. Thomson acted as referee. Pirates defeated United by 6 pointf to 3.
