SUFFER HEAVY LOSSES,
Wellington, January 30
The High Commissioner reports:— Further details of tho fighting in Egypt (show that tlie enemy did not have intimation of our advance until da.wn on Sunday, and it was stated by deserters that tho enemy losses on one flank alone exceeded the total losses iv the engagement at Christinas. They include somo officers. This severe defeat has greatly discouraged tho local Bedouins with the Senussi, aud it is reported they are deserting and returning east.

Tho Senussi suffered heavy losses on the 23rd in the light with the British (which included New Zealand forces). Thoy have been discouraged, and are deserting and returning cast.
