BOWLS AND CROQUET.
There was an unusually largo crowd of bowlers and visitors at the l.'Yulding Howling Club's beautiful grounds on Saturday. There was a double attraction: the expected visit of four rinks of tho Aiiibulaneors from Awapuni caino and the opening of the new croquet ground prepared for I lie lady supporters of the Club. Unfortunately, the Ambulancers failed to turn up in force, Lieut.-Colonel Hardie Neil having olny two supporters; but the visitors had a really good afternoun's play. The croquet lawn was officially opened in a neatly-phrased speech by the President (Archdeacon 1 nncs Jones), and Mrs limes Jones drove tho first ball neatly through the hoop. Thenceforward play was indulged in during tho afternoon. On the bowling green progress was made with Club competitions. In the Champion Singles, Snoad was beaten by Fruish, who went down to limes Jones. In the Handicap Pairs, Chapped and Culpitt were beaten by Mills aud'Harford, who were defeated by J. Bartholomew aud Newman, whilst Goodbohero and Haybittle went down to Burno aud Footc. Afternoon tea was dispensed to all visitors by the ladies of tho Club.
