PEB PBEBB ABBOOIATION. Auckland, January 31. Hugh Sherson, 30 years of age, a grocer, of Burnley Terrace, Mount Eden, wen* to his workroom to clean his gun yesterday after noon. A shot was heard, and Sherson was found dead, shot through the heart. He was a married man, with two childTen. The Taluue, from the Islands, reports that iv consequence of a prolonged drought in Tonga, following on a- hurricane, there is a serious shortage of food in the group. In tbe nor therm part ef Navua, the natives aro living on roots. On the other islands they are living on coconuts. This is resulting in serious sickness. The conditions in Navau and Nukualofa are not much lieittter. The Tongau Govorri/morub has instituted relief works. Prospewta. wero improving when the Taltiiie left, as the result ot traarafall. It is hoped plenty of food will shortly bo available.
