WORK OF THE BOARD
Twenty-eight claims were dealt with a/t the meeftnnjg of tlie War Pensions lioaa'd this week, 17 from soldiers and 11 from dependents. Seven soldiers were graiuifced pensions and six alkrwances, one application was declined, and three applications were held over. Nino pensions were granted to dependants; one claim Was rejected and one was withdrawn. Of the 'seven soldiers who were granted pensions, live wero given. £20 a year each. These were ■men whose degreo of mciaipacity was; slight. Tho other two applicants were gra.nited £52 a year each, their injuries being rather more severe. Among the dependents, two wiv.es wero granted the full pension, three mothers were allowed 10s a week each, a father was allowed 10s a week, another mother was granted £30 a year, and a father and mother who had .lost two sons were granted lus .a week each. A mother who bad prebeen granted 10s weekly bad her allowance increased to 15s weekly on-the production of additional evidence. _,Up to 'the present timo the Pensions Board has considered 255 claims from .soldiers (82 pensions granted, 102 allowances, 31 declined, 13 adjourned, 27. mi hand) and 483 from dependents (431 grainted), 2 allowance*, 30 declined. 1 adjourned, 14 in hand. Tho annual cost of the pensions and allowances granted up to the present time is as follows: — i £ 82 Soldiers do-aw ..' 4337 08 Wives draw 8.014 327 Other dependents draw ... 9,871 507 22,822 98 Allowances total .: 2,804
