Professor Cardston, well known throughout New Zealand as an organiser of carnivals, outlined concisely the aims of the Carnival being organised by the National Patriotic Committee of New Zealand, whose headquarters are in Wellington. He stressed the point that this was not Wellington's effort. Ifc was for the whole of New Zealand, its object being the raising of £55,000, 75 per cent, of which was to provide for the sick and wounded and the dependents •of tbe fallen amongst our boys at the front. The other 25 per cent., in response to an urgent appeal from the lied Cross and St. John Ambulance Societies, tire committee had unanimously agreed to allocate to those societies for medicinal and bodily comforts for the wounded on the field and ill hospital. A monster fete will beheld in the Wellington Town Hall. in. which the different societies and Queen candidate committees would be , running something like 4S stalls. The \ St. John Ambulance Society will have a pot plant and produce stall, ■ and Feilding's help would be needed in contributing and collecting all kinds of produce and stock for these stalls. Any live stock offering can be sold here.

Mrs Preston, of Wellington, Lady Superintendent' of the St. John Ambulance Society, spoke of the need for funds and of the great work the various divisions had been carrying on since the war broke out, first in getting the troops supplied with comforts and then in making provision for the wounded.

.Miss McClelland, honorary secretary to the St. John Ambulance, Wellington, gave a brief account of the work of herself and her assistants- in this great undertaking, and of their plans for bringing the Society into prominence in the Carnival.
