(Received June 1, 9.45 a.m.) London, May 31. Ihe Press Bureau, reporting on the. Dardanelles , action, states: — We 'detected the enemy working under one of our posts on' the 28th. so we exploded a counter-mine sucocsslull.v and blocked their operations. Tho Turks then effected a lodgment in some vacant trendies, winch w<! counter-attacked with the bayonet and recaptured the firinglino trenches, whereupon the Turks supporting the trenches surrendered. Meanwhile, heavy columns advanced in tho bright moonlight, but our
gunners , accurate crossfire caused tho demoralisation of the Turks, whoso second line of bomb-throwers flung missiles into their own first line, completing a rout. Tho enemy's casualties wore at least 2000, and ours were 300.
On the same night the Turks unsuccessfully attempted to recapture the positions.
The French captured an important redoubt from the Turks extreme right on the night of the 28th and repulsed subsequent attacks.
