SOUTHERN MARKETS. PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. Christchureh May 29. Tho wheat market is much firmer on account of the demand from Otago and Southland, as well as from the North Island. Southern.iwheat is evidently not yet in milling condition, and further supplies are therefore required from the northern districts. Practically no grain is offering locally from growers, and it is said .that very little appears to be held in .the country districts. 'There is some business being done by merchants, and quotations of prices that would be paid *to fanners are therefore lively. Tuscan is said to be worth Cs 7d, Hunters 6s Bd, and Pearl & lOd. at country stations. Oats have made a decided advance since figures were published showing that only a comparatively small quantity has been threshed. None offering by farmers, but the price now ruling is equal to 4s at country stations. Oatsheaf chaff is veryjirm in sympathy with oats, the ruling prices being £6.5s to £6 10s, at country stations, according to railage. Potato prices have advanced to £4 at country stations. APPLES AND PEARS. London, May 28. The Orontes and Telamon's apples in quality aud condition were mostly, good; the demand was strong. Prices: AVcst Australian Cleopatras 13s to 15s, Chandlers 13s 6d to 15s, Munros 13s •to 14s, others lis to 14s";' a few brought 9s 9d to 10s Cd, Stunners 13s 6d to 14s Gd, New Yorks 10s Gd to 14s, Scarlets 13s Gd to 14s. Pears—Vicars 5s Gd to 6s 6d, a tray of Wiutcrnelis 9s to 10s.
