BEACONSFIELD.
On Friday evening tht President (Mrs W. L. Grice) aud members of the Beaconsfield Patriotic Association were greeted by a bumper house at their soical in aid of Servia. Mr W. L. Grice, avlio acted as chairman, expressed his regret at the absence of Mr F. Pirani (who wa s engaged elseAvhere), as the ladies had counted on his assitsance in helping along their cause. He Avelcomed Avith pleasure the large gathering, Avhich, in spito of tempestuous weather, had come forward to help the deserving object, and promised a programme packed Avith good things. The prolonged applause greeting the items contributed by the following performers showed that his promise Avas fillfilled: Misses Gledhill (piano, duet), Master Howard Grice (speech)., Mrs C. Corpe (song and recitation), Miss M. Taylor (song), Miss G. Buchanan (recitation), Miss Gaustad (piano solo), Mrs Buchanan (song), Master Jack Whitehead (reading), Miss Buchanan (reading), Miss Shaw (song, also accompaniments and dance music'), Miss Pusscll (recitation). Miss M.'ShaAV (song), Mrs J". P. Morrison (piano solo), Mr J. Quarrie (songs). At the conclusion of tho appeal for Servia (speech by Mr P. Braik), Mrs J. Quarrie played the SerA-iian National Anthem,' Avhich the audience honoured by standing. Mrs Quarrie also rendered the National Anthems of the Allies as a grand finale to the musical portion of tho programme. Games and dancing occupied the latter part of the evening. Votes of thanks to Mr Grice for presiding (proposed by Mr Braik), Mr J._Morrison, avlio auctioned various articles (proposed by the chairman)., and to Mrs Grice and her colleagues (proposed by Mr J. Brown) Avere carried by acclamation. Servia benefits to the cxI tent of £10 through the good nature of the people of the Valley. S in connection Avith the above social the President and ladies of the Patriotic Association desire particularly to thank Mr John Morrison, to whoso efforts the financial success of the gathering was largely due, and the members of the Tokorangi party for their aid. It was no light thing to ! face a long double journey in tho teeth of such a doAvnpour as visited this district on Friday evening.
