Carterton reports the death of an old resident, Mrs A. R. AVallis. She leaves twelve surviving children, including Mr W. Wallis, of Piilmerston, and Air Edward Wallis, of Eoxtori. Mr Stanley W. Cherry is in town to-day making arrangements for the appearance of the Plimmer-Hall Dramatic Co. in "The Mummy arid the Humming Bird," in the Drill Hall next Tuesday night. Mr R. Waldegrave, a well-known five-eight player-of the United Football Club 'and a Manawatu -representative, has joined the Expeditionary reinforcements; also, Mr H. Croucher, another member of the"same blub. At a meeting of the' Victoria College Court' of Convocatibh oii Monday the chairman (Mr T. R. Fleming)" referred in congratulatory terms to the election of Air H. H. Qstler to the University Senate, and lneiitioned that Mr Ostler was the first graduate of the institution who hhd been iippointed to that position. Trooper W. Goldsmith, recently returned'from Samoa, where'he did'service «-ith" the Expeditionary Force and its bane], is p.n "a shqrt yisit lo Feilding. Trooper. Goldsmith is a member of the Feilding Brass Band, a cornet player, and prior to his departure for 'Samoa spent much time in tutif'iug «'> squad of young bandsmen now doiiiif service in the local band. He was given a warm reception on his reappearance at the bandroom last night at reb.eai.sal, and will be accorded a "social" on Saturday evening by the bandsmen. Trooper Alex. Worsfold, a former Feilding bandsman, and a player in the >Sanioau combination, is also on a visit to Feilding, where is parents reside.
