HALCOMBE.
THE SCHOOL BREAKUP
I A pleasant little ceremony took place at the breaking up of the Halcombe school for the summer holidays. Certificates of Merit w r ere presented to the children in lieu of the usual prizes, tho value of which (£lO 17s) has gone to swell the Belgian Children's Relief Fund. The certificates, which wero very much admired, were printed in gilt, and well worthy of being framed, besides being a ' memento of a very interesting occasion. Many of the parents were present. Patriotic songs were rendered by tho children, and after an appropriate 6pcech Mr Burcham presented the certificates. Cheers were called for "Tommy Atkins," tho "Man in Blue,' and for the committee and teachers. The proceedings were elused with the National Anthem, and last, but not | least in the eyes of the small boy, " came a lolly scramble.
Ihe following are those to whom prizes were due: Standard VI., Pryco Thomas 1, Kathleen Henson 2, Annie Rasinussen 3; Standard V., Eric Mac Donald 1, Rita Fischer 2, David ■Wishnowsky 3; Standard IV.. Ruby Wishnowsky 1, Leonie Garuott 'i. George Harper 3; Standard 111., William Cowdrey 1, Paul Sterne 2, Leonard Couch 3; Standard 11., Geo. Ellis 1, Phyllis Voss 2, Raymond Pitcher 3; Standard 1., Sheila Franklin 1, Kenneth Mac Donald 2, Linda Mantfgli 3. Special attendances prizes: George Harper, Harold Smith, Violet Eichler, Paul Storne, Rita Harper, Freda Wishnowsky. Basil Clapham, George Ellis, James Eichler and Percy Eichler. Special prizes to the boy and girl having the best influence iii the school were due to Pryce Thomas and Annie R asmussen, respectively.
