A SHATTERING BLOW DEALT.

(Received Dec. 21, 9.25 a.m.) Paris, December 20. French artillery with 500 guns dealt a shattering blow to the German front lines on ffae north-eastern side of Arras on Thursday. The Germans abandoned the trenches before the devasting fire, and retired to Blangy and St. Lauren, where snipers had taken up position at windows and on housetops, and the Allies were strongly entrenched on the outskirts.
