Owing to public opposition, the Victoria Racing Club has abandoned the proposal to charge extra prices at its Spring meeting in aid of the Patriotic Fund. . Though the prices of .investment stocks are aboui" 10 per cent., and mining stocks 15 per cent, below the rates ruling when the Exchange closed on August 1, they are decided Ij* firmer than was anticipated, and showed a marked recovery from the lowest unofficial figures reached during the suspension.
