TENNIS.
FEILDING RETAINS THE COUNTRY CUP.
In accordance with general expectation, the Feilding Tennis Club had no difficulty in repelling the attack of the Palmerston Club on their possession of the Country Cup on Saturday afternoon, by 9 sets 131 games to 4 sets 98 games. The following were the scores (Feilding players being mentioned first): — Men's Singles.—Bailey beat Addison, 6—3, 6—5 ; Lawson beat Clere, 6—5 s 6_5; Barren beat Collins. 6—2, 5 6, 6—o; Haggitt beat Irvine, 6—2, 6—3.
Ladies' Singles.—Mrs Haggitt lost to Miss Forsaith, 4-4); Mrs Harding beat Miss Mason, 9—6.
Men's Doubles.—Bailey and Lawson lost to Addison and Irvine, 6—2, 3—6, 6—B; Barron and Haggitt beat Clere and Collins, 6—3, 6—4;. Graham and Hitchings beat D mil op and Salmon, 6—o, 6—2. Ladies' Doubles.—Mrs Haggitt and Mrs Harding lost to Miss Korsaith and Miss Mason, o—9; Mrs Fry and Miss Bailey lost to Miss Watson and Miss Combs, 3—9.
Combined Doubles.—Graham and Miss Bailey beat Dunlop and Miss Watson, 9-1; Hitchings and Mrs Fry beat Salmon and Miss Combs, 9—B.
