I INCREASE OF EXPENDITURE. The Government Railway returns for the period from April 1 ending September 13 supply the following comparisons with the corresponding period of 1913: — Revenue — North Island ... 937,390 897,353 South Island ... 825,364 550,032 Total ...1,762,7 -34 1,747,385 Expenditure— North Island ... 691,192 619.G52 South Island ... 604,773 577,787 Total. ...1,295,9601,197,439 Miles of track open for traffic are: —North Island, 1913, 1199; 1912, 1190. South Island. 1913. 1652; 1912. 1652. Total., 1913, 2851; 1912, 2842. The percentage of revenue works out: North Island, 1913, 73.74; 1912. 69.05*. South Island, 1913, 1912, 67.97. Increase of mileage open for traffic to date is 9 miles, all "in the North Island. I _ There has been a falling off on. all i lines of G358 first-class single passengers, but an increase of 24.1 IS relurn fares in this class, while second-class I have increased by 10,80-3 single and I 189,722 returns; On the North island Main Trunk lines passenger revenue I decreased by £7382, but goods parcels and luggage traffic returns increased |by £2777.
