MAKINO.

SCHOOL CONCERT LAST NIGHT

An extremely enjoyable and successful concert was given at the Makino road school last night by the pupils, with some adult assistants. The children, whose items comprised the major portion of the programme, spoke out with marked clearness and distinctness, and sang tunefully and .pleasingly both in solos an choruses. exhibited evidence of painstaking work in preparation on the part of the teachers, M& Whalley and Miss Duncan, who are to be congratulated upon the excellence of the children's work. The following programme was rendered: Song, "Gone is the Winter," children;, recitation, little Ernest Whalley; song, "The Ringers,". Mr G. Fitzpatrick; dialogue, "Slightly •Mixed," senior girls; song, Miss Lexie Younger; comic sketches, Mr F. Groombridge; recitation, Esther Miirchie; song, "The Carnival/ , Mrs | Cussons; recitation, Mary Murchie; song, by the boys; dialogue, ' 'Troubles of a Baby," Gladys Johnston and Esther Murchie; song, "My Dreams," Mr Glanville Jones; ' recitation, "Christening Dolly," Enid Clover; son" by the children; recitation, "Five Little Ducks," little girls; dialogue, "Playing at School, pupils; eqng, "Meddlesome Mattie," children; dialogue. "Bill and Ben," boys; sketch, Mr Marshall; song, "Take Me Back to Baby Land," Miss Naomi Whalley; song,' '"Three Old. Maids," Mrs Whalley and senior girls; dialogue, "A Double Engagement," pupils; song, "Weary," pupils; and .some comics to finish by Mr Groombridge. Mrs Whalley presided at the piano, ;and Mr A. Baker also played. j The dance was kept, up till the early hours of the morning. Messrs W. Pilcher and Trask, supplied the music, and extras were played by Miss Duncan and Mesdameg Younger and Whalley.
