The interstate conference of the Waterside Workers' Federation is considering the schedule and conditions applicable to the whole of the Commonwealth. Amongst other conditions, adopted are these: That the men will not work in refrigerating holds when the temperature is under 15 deg.; that in order to prevent accidents all winches and other hauling gear be stopped while the men are ascending and descending the holds, or changing for relief. A RECORD JUMP. Melbourne, October 17. The horse Landkck cleared 7ft 2in !at the Bendigo Show, beating Lady Morton's Australasian record of 7ft Ofin, made in New Zealand. THE "STRANDED' TEAM. Adelaide, October 17. A letter from the treasurer of Mayne's cricketers in_ America, dated September 12, authorises a flat denial of rumours that the team was stranded, and characterises such rumours as ridiculous nonsense. SHIPPING NEWS. Clarence Heads. Oct. 17. Sailed —Manurewa, for New Zealand. N.S.W. MOTORS. (Received Oct. 17, 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, October 17. The number of motors registered in New South Wales is 12,106, comprising 6900 pleasure care, 4600 motor cycles, 235 taxicabs, and 371 commercial vehicles. DESTRUCTIVE STORM. A storm in the Blue Mountains did considerable damage. A billiardroom at Katooinba was blown down, the iron roof being carried across the road, knocking down a telegraph pole and smashing a plateglass window. The Presbyterian Church, in course of erection, had its walls demolished, and other damage was done.
