INVESTIGATION OF THE COLONIAL MUTUAL.

PEB PEEBS ASSOCIATION. (Received Sept. 25, 9.5 a.m.) Melbourne, Sept. 25. Before a Parliamentary Select Committee was appointed to report on. the Bill to alter the memorandum of Association of the Colonial Mutual Assurance Society, Mr Pullar, secretary and actuary of the society, gave witness as to the system of_ audit being practically identical with _ that of other companies. He explained that the higher cost of management was due to the great cost of securing newordinary business. The first year's premiums were nearly all absorbed, and the expenses of the Society's business last year had increased at a greater ratio than any other company in the world. The proportion of the cost depended on the rate of increase.
