CELEBRATING FRANCHISE DAY.

A very happy afternoon was spent yesterday in St. Paul's Hall, when the memibers and friends of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met to celebrate Franchise Day. The Rev. A. B. Chap poll gave an interesting and thoughtful address on the women's franchise, making special reference to tho late. . Sir John Hall, who was mainly instrumental in securing the vote for women in New Zealand. Ho also spoke of the influence and opportunity that mothers had in training their young people, urging all to be true to their principles "for God, Home, and Humanity." During the afternoon a deal of amusement was created by a competition, the prize winners being Mesdames Watson and Morphy. A vocal solo was contributed by Miss M. Carthew. Afternoon tea. was handed round. A vote of thanks wag proposed by Mrs Budd in a very ■happy speech, and carried with acclamation.
