Baron Marschali yon Bieberstein.

To-day's cable news tells lie of the sudden and unexpected death of Baron Marschall yon Bieberstein, who was the right hand, and some folks said the brain, of the Emperor of Germany. He was sent to Turkey to act as Ambassador there during ' the recent stressful times, and was credited with much mysterious wire-pulling. Only a few weeks ago he was unexpectedly transferred from Constantinople to London, and again it was

hinted that he was the Stormy Petrel of Diplomacy. It was written by a well-informed English journalist the other day that when Ambassador to Turkey, the Baron entered into secret communication with the Turkish Cabinet with the object of purchasing rights which, falling short of actual annexation, would have placed Germany in possession of that important Mediterranean port, Tripoli, for which Italy is fighting. Negotiations with this object were closely approaching the conclusion planned by the German Ambassador, when the secret was betrayed to Italy. There was no time "to lose, and with a decision and celerity that astonished the wodd, ,an Italian expedition was fitted out and despatched to Tripoli, that being the secret history of Italy declaring war on Turkey! And now Germany's premier diplomat, who was to have pulled cunning wires for the Kaiser in the heart of the British Empire, has gone out of the intrigue business for good.
