IN THE MATAURA DISTRICT.

BAD FOR FARMERS

FSB PEESa ASSOCIATION.

Gore, September 23. Heavy rains have fallen almost continually for 36 hours. The Mataura river and district streams have overflowed their banks and have spread over a large area'of low-lying country.

At Mandeville the Waimea stream has spread over a mile of country, with the result that a number of sheep have been drowned. Parts of Wyndhain are flooded, and several houses are surrounded with water. The waters have now receded.

. Iho rain will delay farming operations, and is also injurious to the lambing .season.
