Wellington, September 24. The High Commissioner's report under dato London, tho 21st inst., is as follows: — Mutton.-—Tho market is slightly weaker, with less demand on account of high prices, but. stocks are moderate. Holders aro firm, and there- is no change in prices. Canterbury 4|d, North Island 4Jd. Lamb.—Market quiet. The weather lately has been very unfavoiirable to the sale of lamb. Tho supplies of home-grown' lambs are heavy, which tends to lower prices. New Zealand lamb, Canterbury sfd, other than Canterbury s£d. Beef.—Market firm, although large supplies are coming forward. Riverplate chilled beef curtails the retails demand. New Zealand hindquarters 32-d, forequarters 3|d. River Plate chilled hindquarters 4|d, forequarters 3}d. Butter.—The market is very firm, with a brisk demand for best quality, but for ordinary quality—of which thero is a large quantity on hand —there is poor demand. Prospects are uncertain and speculative in New Zealand second hands, which aro nominal at 1225; Australian 114s, Danish 131s, Siberian 110s. Chees.—Market quiet, with little doing, but a good feeling prevails. Canadian 65s od, English Cheddar 735, New Zealand (at second hand) 675. Hemp.—Market firm. There is a better demand and eood business has been done in distant deliveries. Oc-tober-December N.Z. good-fair grade £27 10s, fair grade £26; fair current Manila £28, January-March £28 10s. Oats. —Market firm, with more enquiry. N,Z. short sparrowbills, 26s 6d. Peas. —Tho spot arket is steady, but the demand is principally for speculative purposes. N.Z. partridge 40s 6d. Beans.—Market steady, with improved demand on account of English crops being in bad condition. m.Z. beans, f.a.q., new crop, per 5041b, 38s 6d.
