THE BOWLING SEASON.
The annual meeting of the Feilding Bowline; Club is to bo held in the Denbigh Hotel to-night. An interesting time is expected, as there is an active season coming. All intending members are invited.
INTERESTING TO RANGERS
At the Coin b this morning, before Messrs E. Goodbehere and J. G. Cobbe. Justices, the Oroua County Ranger (Mr Elliott) proceeded against John Thomas (Mr for illegally rescuing a cow which plaintiff had impounded. Evidence was heard regarding the facts, and the Bench held th t, owing to the removal of a fence b> the roadman to get gravel, the cow got on the road. Mr Elliott relied on the decision of the case, Walsh v. Curran, in which the Chief Justice held that if a person had improperly impounded an animal, it was illegal for the owner to rescue it by force. The Bench decided that an offence had been committed, but in the circumstances they would make the penalty a light one. A fine of 10s, with costs, was iinj)osed. The same plaintiff proceeded against M. Rei-c-henbach for allowing stock to graze on tho road. Defendant was fined 5s and costs.
