Mr W. Eoacho was granted a lcasi of section 6, Block IX., lluahiae, a 6s per acre.

Mr J. H. Benseniiann was granted a leaso of section 13 ,Block VIII., 'Apiti, at 7s per acre.

The Chief Inspector's report on Mr 1\ Watson's request about " slovenly speech " in schools, was adopted.

Mr Pirani was last night electtd Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Wanganui Girls' College.

Thanks were accorded to Messrs Laird, Ma-ir, and .Russell for gifts of plants for the rural course.

The Chairman and Chief Inspector are to report on the new organisation for the Wanganui Technical College.

Mr Gilbert Carson was again nominated as representative on the Wellington Training College Committee of Advice.

A very satisfactory report on the working of the Girls' College was received from Dr. Anderson, AssistantInspector of Schools.

A claim for rent for the Taikoroa Hall wns refused on the ground that the Board had not arranged for the use of the hall.

A donation of 10s each and votes of thanks were accorded to three men who had saved the school buildings Mangaweka from fire.

Resignations accepted: Mr L. R. Martin, clerk ; Mr F. G. Carson, Mangiirimu ; Mr A. T. Sellars, Oraitoha ; Aliss M. Ansell, probationer, Manaia.

It was decided to vote a bonus of £25 to Mr Matthews, of Apiti, for his successful work at Apiti, in addition to his fees of £53 as instructor at technical classes

The report on the work of tho Board's painters was most satisfactory, and it was decided to make airangements for wholesale quantities of material.

Education Department agreed to grants for teachers' residences at Umumuri and Upokongaro, but refused Sfconey Creek, To re re, and Durie Hill. '

The K-ai Iwi Committee wrote in high terms of praise of the manner in which the Board had attended to the school building requirements in the district.

The Wanganui Teachers' Institute wrote in support of the present junior cadet system and the appointment of Mr * Watkin as drawing instructor in primary schools.

Mr Pirani has given notice to move two motions at next meeting of the Wanganui Education Board. One is to enable a teacher to ascertain the reasons for the Board's action where dismissal is contemplated, by means of an enquiry before a special committee, and the other motion is an amendment of tho teachers' promotion lists by means of an increase in the maximum marks for teaching and a reduction in the marks for certificate, provision for reducing the marks of an unsatisfactory teacher, and the provision of separate lists for teachers suitable for headteacliers in the different grades and for infant teachers.
