NOTES FROM THE CITY.

Substantial increases are seen in almost every one of the principal articles v of consumption exported by Britain to this country. Meat.—Enquiries for c.i.f. !mutton and lamb business are not very brisk at the moment, and prices at Honie_ are down. Business has been done in Canterbury lambs, however, at o.d for February shipment. It is difficult.to quote Wellington mutton in view of .the unsettled labour dispute.

Dairy Produce.—Butter still keeps remarkably high in price in >tke London market, and in Australia also. Canada is not so* keenly interested in the Now Zealand article as a week or so ago. It is believed that California will shortly be able to supply, tbe, requirements of the Western Canada markets before the next outgoing steamer.from New Zealand can land.. South Africa is in this market again for butter, and business has been done on the basis of 13d per lb. f.o.b: Dry weather in the producing districts of Australia has materially hardened butter prices all over the Commonwealth, and prices are expected to go higher than those now JOHNSONVILLE STOCK SALE.
