AUSTRALIA
BY ELECTRIO TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) (Received Dec. 22, 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, December 22. Relations bet-ween the Government and tho Speaker aro becoming strained. Recently Speaker Willis took if upon himself to suspend Mr Robinsou, chief of the Hansard stall, for alleged insubordination, ami applied to the Government for tho endorsement of his action. This Premier McGowan refused, replying that the Speaker was unable to suspend an officer without tho concurrence of the President of the Legislative Council. A large amount of correspondence which passed between the heads of the two Houses on the subject was made public, and shows that the President of the Legislative Council regards Mr Robinson as a faithful and competent officer. Mr Willis also heavily fined two Parliamentary messengers for alleged insubordination, and his authority is being questioned by tho press. Adelaide. December 22. A political crisis has arisen in connection with the Appropriation Bill, the Council declining to pass tho items for the establishment of Government brick, timber, and firewood yards, on ihe ground that they should bo included m a special bill. The Houses met in conference, but wero unable to agree, and a general election is regarded as unavoidable.
