PUBLIC LIGHTING.
in connection with the determmtturn of the Gas Company to push on with the extension of mains in the borough, a representative of theS'rui yesterday asked the Mayor if the Borough Council would agree to have street lamps placed at the necessary points on the route or the new mains' Mr Goodbehere replied ho was of opinion that the Council would be only too pleased to put up the lamps where required, Tho trouble in the past had been that the Council could not get tho lamps where they wanted them. Speaking on the work before the special Public Lighting Committee of the Council, the Mayor said they would go into the whole question with the Gas Company, and would probably ask them to take over the control of the street lighting. Extensions of gas mains' in other streets would be asked for, and an attempt would be made to greatly improve -the public lighting of the borough.
