Notes and Comments.
Up to the other day paper-bag cookery was the vogue, and it has remained for a New Zealander to reduce the idea to the minimum of bagless paper cookery. Mr G. D. AVbite, a Dunedin contractor, has just .akcm out patent rights for his new system. Soon someone will put- all these things out of date by patenting a cookery less bagless system.
This was overheard in tlie train. First Smoker: AVhat is tlie population of Feilding—sooo? Second Smoker: Oh, no. About 2000—and most of those live outside 'the borough! It is a rich district, though. F.S.: I suppose most of Feilding's farmers do their business with' Palmerston? S.S.: Oh, yes; I think so! (Thus is Feilding libelled by the ill-informed traveller.)
Miss Short.vll still contin***Jss to gain laurels for the Colyton State School. Not content with annexing the school gardens competition for two years running, with having her school' selected as a model observation school, and with passing six out of seven pupils for proficiency certificates, she has now presented a pupil (Robert Laukshear) who has won the scholarship offered by the Palmerston Hgih School Board of Governors for pupils of primary schools, equal 'to £52, providing free board and tuition for twelve months. AYe heartily congratulate the parents, Miss Short-all, and the residents of Colyton upon this further proof of the efficiency of the work at the school.
