THE MONEY MARKET.
Says the New Zealand Trade Eβview' (Wellington) in its latest issue: Th'j- decided improvement in tlie wool market is splendid news for the Dominion, as it means a considerable addition to the country's -income, and materially .affects the supply of money Ihere. Our dairy produce also is realising excellent- 'prices. As regards '< the volume of the season's output, ! though, it is a little early to estimate what that will be, as the weatheihas. retarded operations to a great extent. For the season, cs far as weh'Avo gone, our exports are behind lust year in quantity, but this may be in ado up to a great -extent as wio season progresses. Two.Jjanking authorities have recently commented oil the rapid growth in the scale of importation, a<nd have' issued a- note of warning as to the result, of this growth if continued. We have referred io this mattea , before in ou-r (columns, and 'have pointed out that if this growth in imports continues,, without a corresponding growth in thje value of onr exports, the result will be a hardening- of the money I market. Money has been fairly plentiful for some little time past, but a slightly firmer tendency is noticeable now, although there is still sufficient supply available for aIE ordinary requirements, and no re-aL stringency is to be anticipated in the- menr future.
