In moving his motion last night appointing Crs. Richmond, Barry, Ongley and lihnsclf as a special Commission to dc:il with public lightinsr. the .Mayor .said tlio electric light jjoll liad lieon lost, but'they could not allow the outer part of tho 'to\yn to remain in darkness. It struck him that some steps .should be taken to improve matters: -They could get tho gas mains extended, more street lamps, and make so mo alteration in the mode of street, lighting. Cr. Say well seconded the motion. Cγ. Hart'ord asked if the Council had in its possession a copy of the report of Mr Smithies on the gas works. He would say at onco that he would stronely oppose any additional work being done by the Gas Company. Tho Mayor pointed out that any fresh mains laid by the company would bo good work and the Council would be safe in. taking that over. The motion was agreed to.
