ACCIDENT TO MR A. CLELAND

FALL FROM A RAILWAY CARRIAGE.

Mr 'A. Cleland, of Feildmg, had a narrow escape from a tragic death on Saturday night. He was standing on the platform of a carriage of the evening train from Wanganui, which reaches here at 8 o'clock, and as the train was pulling into the station he lost liis footing and fell on to the platform. He had hold of the carriage guard rail at the time, and, still clinging to this, he was dragged along- the edge of the platform for al>f»ut 25 yards, before t-tae train was stopped. Fortunately, Mr Cleland was able to retain his hold of the rail, otherwise he must have been dragged under the carriages. On being released from his perilous position, it was found that though Mr Cleland was a good deal shaken and I bruised, no bones were broken.
