Wellington, Nov. 3. At the sitting of the Committee of the Lower House to-day, Mr Myers put in a letter from Mr Symes, then M.P., suggesting that the leaseholders whq had received refunds should subscribe to make little surprise presents to certain members of the Committee of the House who had helped to get the matter through. This closed the case on charge No. 3, and evidence was taken on the 4th charge, in regard to threats of loss of Government advertising against the Stratford Post if it did not treat Mr Symes as he thought it should. It was shown that there had been no difficulty in getting the Post placed on the Government advertising list, although the majority of the directors were Oppositionists. GOLD EXPORT. The export of gold for the ten months ending October 31 last was 404,69-loz, valued at £1,601,113, a decrease for the ten months of 17,7300z, valued at £78,101. HUTCHISON v. MULDROCK. Wellington, November 2. His Honour Mr Justice Cooper today decided in favour of George Hutchinson, solicitor, of Wanganui, in Ids action against Hugh Muldrock, farmer, of "Whangarei, with respect of certain alleged breaches of covenants arising out of a lease of" a. farm from plaintiff. FATAL ACCIDENT
Napier, November 2. George Norman, aged *'fiß, ' an "okl and respected citizen of Napier,' was accidentally killed this ' afternoon. He was driving aoart ln'den with coal, when the horses took fright and their plunge jerked Norman oif one of the shafts on which he" wa.s sitting. A wheel of the cart .passed over his body, and ins head strikinothe ground caused concussion. He was immediately removed to the hospital, hut died half an hour 'after admission from internal hemorrhage. He leaves a widow and three daughters, and one son.
FIRE AT MASON'S GARDENS. Wellington, Nov. 3. The buildings at Mason's Gardens, destroyed by fire at the Hiitt last night, wore insured by the owner (Mr R. Keene) for £1000 in the State Insurance Office. Mr Keene estimates his loss at £1000 or more . SATUEDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. New Plymouth, ON'ov. 3. The local Employers' Association has passed a resolution trusting that a Bill will he passed at an early date by Parliament making a Saturday half-holiday compulsory and universal .
