THE SHEARER. Christchurch, Sept. 15. Mr Waddell, secretary of the Canterbury Shearers' Union, yesterday said he was prepared to make what he called "a sporting offer", to the sheep owners. From a conversation which a. Star reporter had with Sir Waddell this morning, it appears that his sporting offer really is an tiltimatum. Sir Waddell said the shearers were ready to go to work at £1 per 100. This offer would remain open till Friday night, and if the employers would not accept the offer hy that time the shearers would go straight out for 22s 6d per 100. The men, said Mr Waddell, had displayed the utmost patience and made all possible efforts. to bring about peaceful settlement. . They had been humhugged Tight from the jump. Labour was short in Australia, and Australian shearers would not come to New j Zealand, so that owners over here ! would have to rely on local men.
