Mr William Cable, the well-known iron-.-I'ouniler. accompanied by his son, .Roy Cable, 18. and three employees loft- tin- foundry at Kaiivarra to go to the works in towji. They woi , * .seated in a motor car driven by Roy Cable, who did not notice a wire rope stretched ;i<TOr;.« the street in connection with some building operations near the Thomdon (Manawatu) Railway Station. The car drove under tho rope, which seriously injured }lr Cable ;uid his son. The lower part of the former's lace was crushed in and an operation rendered necessary. Roy Cable , sustained conclusion of the brain and the other occupants wvrt* more or less hurt. A MINISTERRESIGNS. Thnnru. Sept-. 13. At a Kpreial meet-ing of the Timaru Presbytery io-day. tin.. Rev. J. H. G. Thi> Presbytery considered the statement in private, and on resuming adopted a finding condcmitiiip: such conduct and statements and also various letters written by the Rev. Chappie to the newspapers, in .some ol which he used contemptuous expressions regarding tho Presbytory. and. as he expressed n<) regret, but adhered k> the position ho had taken up. the Presbytery advised him to withdraw peacefully from the charge of St. Andrew's and tho Presbyterian Church, and -gave him a fortuv'ht in which to reply. Mr Chapplo immediately handed in his resignation of tbo charge, and his withdrawal from the Church. Tho resignation was accepted, and Mr Chappie was declared -to bo no lon go r a minister of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.
It was decided that the congregation should continue to |>ay hi? stipend for three mouths to como.
