WESLEYAN BAZAAR.

AT THE DRILL HALL TO-DAY

OFFICIALLY OPENED BY THE MAYOR.

■of -f| te ™V h<i bazaar in aid ot the Wesley Parsonage improve-' ■ mente fund was opened at the Drill Hall by the Mayor, Mr E. Goodbeiiere Many- busy iiands, both miUu dud female, Jaad transformed the liaJJ S >+ i \ mark( ? t , place > whw e visitors might buy with advantage to themselves and to the promoters, and amuse themselves in various ways, fetalis were built on the market tooth plan, neat and comfortable. enabW the goods to be well set out, and allowing ior the free passage of that great essential of bazaars—cash The stage was reserved for boys' marches etc., and a maypole was a prominent feature of the landscape. Uommanda view of the surroundings was a aandkerchiei Tree, liberally sprinkled, as its name implies, with handkerchiefs, which, when liuttered by the breeze, looked like troops of fairy Boy bcoute conducting signalling operations. Miss L. Coles was the sentry at the tree. Next in order from the stage was placed the tfancy Stall m charge of Mrs Biliman and Miss Meadows. This stall was chock full or iancy work cushions, table centres, and other such articles fearfully j and wonderfully made, and by way of variety there were some woodwork pieces and a collection of china. The Work Stall, presided over by Mesdames Crabb, Aitken, and Jennings ' showed a fine collection of babies' and children's clothing, aprons' for all ages, and other articles which ladies will recognise as evry useful. Nicely arranged was the Plant and Produce Stall, which was Bulging out with flowering and foliage pot plants., sced•hngs, etc.,. and farm and garden produce. Mesdames \V. 1\ Bramwell and W. Andrews had charge, with Miss Maclean as Mower Girl. Misses Crook and Tong had charge of the Sweet Stall, and a very sweet stall it was, too, enough to bring tears to the mouth of the oldest boy in the place. Dolls from one penny to one pound sterling were to be had at tne Doll Stall, which had been tastefully, decorated by the Misses Bowater, who were placed in charge. At the Tea Stall, which looked like a iairy bower both inside and outside, Mesdames Frost, Burnley, and Mat-1 thews had charge/ with Misses Tong. Peajce, Coles, Grayburn, and Wilson as willing and winning helpers. It could be taken for granted that this stall would be popular during the afternoon. Miss Gichard had the inevitable Bran Tub, and worked it well,, much to the delight of the youngsters. Altogether, the old hall presented a lively, business-like, and beautiful appearance, and the work done was a credit to the ladies and their male assistants who had ~gone to so much trouble in preparing it. That there had been long preparation in gathering up and making things for sale was evidenced by the liberal collec.tions in each of th 6 stalls. Mrs Billman had the onerous post of Secretary for the bazaar, and she did the work without getting excited, and with tactfnlness and great resource.

P% this afternoou included girls' marches and vocal items, and to-night there are to be a Maypole dance, girls' inarches, and boye' action songs, with vocal items intervening. The Maypole dance was organised in a highly successful toj by Mesdames J. "W. Brauvnell and Maud. who had to fight the influenza fiend strenuously in order to get a sufficient number of children up to cou- . cert pitch for the occasion. The bazaar will be open this evening and to-morrow afternoon and evening.
