It will be seen by a perusal of our reading matter to-day that Eire Brigade matters attracted quite a large amount of attention in Feilding yesterday. There was a ceremonial phase at tho opening of the new station. there was a business phase at the meeting of the Fire Board, and there was the critical phase at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. The .Superintendent of the Feilding Eire Brigade repeated his complaint against the Star at the meeting of the Eire Board that wo still failed to do him justice. Aud in support of that complaint he reiterated his opinion that ho and the brigade had been really smart in getting to the scene of the recent fire ten minutes ai-'thii the hell had been run. The Superintendent wilfully misses the Staii's point. We havo protested agaiiibt tho time lost m finding the- Superintendent or any other officer of the Brigade iskkoiik the bell was rung. Apropos, at the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night, during a discussion on Fire Brigade requirements, Mr W. F. Bramwell said he had been present at the recent fire in Camden street from the time it was discovered till it was extinguished, and hail watched closely the work of the Brigade. There was no doubt in his mind that there was a great lack- of organisation in the Brigade. Ventilation and criticism should help towards the perfection of our fire-fighting forces tiiat should be so much desired and sought for by every resident in the borough.
