Largo crowds continue to follow the baud contests in Wanganui, and the Quickstep and Quartette contests yesterday proved great attractions. Wanganui and Nelson again scored the honours. THE QUICKSTEP. Maximum points to be obtained for music in the Quickstep Contest: Intonation_ 30. interpretation 30, tone i, precision and unanimity 15, ensemble and balance 13. accuracy as to notes and rests 15, soli 9, total 138 ; military, 180. Soprano missing notes 21 and 22. Soprano better 24 and 25. Cuts forzando notes too short. Bass solo poor. Bare 73. 74 and 75 indistinct. Eupho. frightfully out of tune. Band out of tune. Band very .shaky. Hand not improving as they go along. Where is soprano at 34 and 35? Band badly balanced. Not working together. Articulation bad. Notes cut too short. Better from the trio, when stationary. Tempo too fast. Last two notes played correctly 24 23, 20, 10, 10. 9, 6—102." Gisborne, Wanganui (2), and Nelson entered for the Quartette. Results: Nelson, 132 points, 1; Wanganui No. 1, 129, 2; Wanganui No. 2. 121: Gisborne, 107.
