A GAME OF GOLF.

£786 CHARGED FOR A SINGLE STROKE.

UNLUCKY MRS LECKIE.

DR RAWSON WINS 'A VERDICT

[.PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, March 15. Considerable interest has been taken in a case which occupied two days in the Supreme Court, in which Frank Leckie, a Civil servant, and his wife sought to recover from Dr Ernest Rawson the sum of £786 as damages for bodily injuries sustained by Mrs Leckie. The case is the sequel to an accident which took place on the Heretaunga golf links, Hut't Valley, when the defendant, in swinging his club, struck Mrs Leckie on tho face, breaking her nose, injuring the frontal base of tho skull, and severing the olfactory nerve, as the result of which she lost all sense of taste and 6mell. The defence was that Mrs Leckie had no right to be where she was, that defendant was not guilty of any negligence, that the accident was caused through Mrs Leckie breaking the recognised custom by passing over the tee at the back of tho player without giving any warning of her approach. After much evidence had been heard, and before giving its verdict the jury went out to inspect the links, which are nineteen miles from town. Judgment was given for defendant.
