ACTIVE DEMAND IN LONDON

March 9. 4. he Bank of New Zealand hae received the following cablegram, dated .London, Bth inst.:— The wool sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance of buyers. The market i strong for all kinds of merino, l. the demand is active. Current prices for South Island farmers' lots, in average condition: Coarse crossbreds, 36's to 40's, 10$ dto lid; medium, Wβ. to 46's, liJJd to Iβ Id; fine, 50's, Is to Is 2d. A Press Association cable received at 11.45 o'clock to-day from London states: The wool sales are brisk. -. rinos are slightly dearer. Crossbred > are slightly easier. The High Commisisoner cables: The wool sales commenced to-day with active demand. Merinos and fine and medium crossbreds are selling fully up fco the prices of laet sales. Coaree crossbreds are slightly lower. Trade is good, and likely to continue. Prqepects are favourable.
