BUNNY AND A £10 FINE. Wanganui, March 7. Lα the Magistrate's Court this morning, an Upper Wangaehu settler was fined the maximum penalty of £10, and costs, for failing to destroy rabbits on his holding. Considerable anxiety is felt among settlers about "bunny" coming through the island from Karioi.
SUDDEN DEATH OF A BANK MANAGER. —-
Wellington, March 7. Mr W. McCullough, manager of the Wellington branch of the Bank of New South Wales, died suddenly this morning.
POWELKA, WHOLESALE HOUSE-
BREAKER.
Palmerston N., Match 7. In connection with the recent wholesale robberies of household furniture, five charges of housebreaking were 'preferred against Jos. Powelka, at the S.M. Court to-day. A further charge of breaking and entering the residence of Mr Harold It. Cooper in July last and stealing goods valued at £17 was also preferred against the accused.
It is rumoured that a still more sensational charge is pending in reference to tho destruction of Miss Mackay's dressmaking establishment in Campbell street. Miss Mackay's house was burnt down while she was away on a_ holiday, and on her return her suspicious were aroused by finding no trace in the ruins., of certain rugs and an eider down quilt. It is now stated that these articles have been discovered in accused's house in Church street.
