SALE OF WORK.
A BAPTIST EFFORT FOR BUILD-
ING FUNDS
IN THE ODDFELLOWS' HALL
At 11 o'clock this morning Mr D. H. Guthrie, M.P., officially opened a sale of work, which is being conducted in the Oddfellows' Hall by the members of the local Baptist congregation for the jrarpose of raising funds to extinguish tlie remaining debt on the church huilding. The hall has been transformed by the ladies into a bazaar, where particular kinds of goods may be purchased and where it is hoped good business will be done this afternoon and tnis evening. There are six stalk, well stocked with reliable goods, Jasteuflly arranged. The Lolly Stall, in charge of Mrs Neilsen and Mies Wmslade, sete forth a tempting array of sweets which visitors to the bazaar will find it extremely difficult to ignore. Mesdames Roche and Brabyn have a Flower Stall, on which are laid put a fine collection of the natural Beauties of this earth, emphasising the fact that this is not by any means a drab world we live in. Swinerd has charge of the Fancy totall, which contains a varied collection of needlework, .photographic, and other goods calculated to make the casual visitor ejaculate <f Just fancy!" The" Produce Stall, without which there could not well be a sale of work, is under the control of Mr W. B. Watson, who lia§ ensured a wiee and liberal assortment of those machines which extract from the soil those acids which are necessary for the sustenance of the human frame. A well-stocked Apron Stall :s in charge of Mesdames Winsla'de and Belli, and Mesdames Shearer and Wratt have the Underclothing Stall. Mesdames and Watson have undertaken the work of supervising the arrangements for refreshments, which they are carrying out with, great satisfaction to patrons. Tlie man behind the gun is Mr E. M. Swinerd, who, under the title > .of Convener, has kept an eye <r i the whole of the arrangements, a work which, as was to be expected, has j heen successfully performed. Pastor I Swinerd has been the willing hand all through, and if tie sale is a successful one, he will be very pleased, and heartily appreciate the help so generously given. A. musical programme, under the conductorship of Mr H. Temple White, is to be given this evening, and an unusually good concert is promised.
