OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Oroua County Council was held to-day: Present: Crs. G. C. Wheeler (Chairman), J. H. Vincent, Gliomas Rowling. W. Reid, Hugh Bun-ell, and H. Redniayne.

CORESPONDENCE.

Letters were received as follows:— From Cr. H. Redmayne, asking for leave of absence, as he wished to take a short trip to England.—Granted. From Mr Win. Corey, re Campion's road, Aorangi, stating he was having plans prepared for the dedication of the road.

From Treasury, stating that Order-in-Council validating irregularity in procedure adopted to raise further loan of £545 for roads in Hiwinui and Otangaki ridings will be gazetted - n the current issue of the New Zealand Gazette; and also stating that as no money had been paid over on the loan payment must be made under the new Act, which necessitated the Council ■applying afresh 'to the Superintendent of the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Office, who would submit it tor the consideration of the Board on March 15.

This hill badly requires regrading, as. owing to the sharp turn on the eteep grade, it is almost the woret on this road. To regrade this hill and wileu the roadway, making grade about on* m fifteen and roadway about twentyJive feet wide, would cost about £45 io renew the old culvert at the foot or the hill and regrade both this hill and the one just across the guliv would cost: Excavation £45, gravelling £20, 25ft-long culvert concrete walls, jarrah deck) £25; total, £90 Rangitawa Riding.—The contract for gravelling the Halcombe-Kakarik--roaa has been, commenced. The guard fence on the Mangaone road between Cr Redmayne's residence and Ha ■ combe requires repairing and lengthening for about one chain.

Raumanga Riding.—Contracts Not> 1, and 3 for gravelling Wilson'? Line, Waituna road and Makino road respectively, have been commenced. Makino Riding.—The contract for re-forming and gravelling lower Makino road is progressing satisfactorily ; the gravelling has been completed ana the formation should be completed in about a week. The contractor will commence gravelling the lower part of Kimbolton road on Monday. One of the sharp turns near the top of the first hill on the 'Mangaone road could be considerably improved by widenrig the road by about eight or ten. feet' at this point. The cost of the work would be about £5. "'■

Taonui Riding.—The contract; for gravelling the Aorangi road has beou commenced, but is proceeding very slowly. The contract for gravelling the Taonui road has been commenced, and the contracts for gravelling the Feilding-Bunnythorpe and the Feild-ing-Ashhurst roads will be commenced next week. A 4ft culvert on the Stoney Creek road and a twelve-inch one on Bunnythorpe road collapsed 'during the last rains, so I have had pipes delivered and the work of putting them in is now proceeding. Hiwinui Riding.—The contract for gravelling the various roads in Hiwinui riding was commenced yesterday. Otangaki Riding.---The contract for gravelling the Bunnythorpe-Ashhursfc road has been completed. The report was adopted. TRANSFERS. The following alterations were made in the Rate Roll: — T. F.
