NEGLECT IN AUDITING BOOKS

William Young, an ex-councillor of Kingston-on-Thamee, has been sentenced to three years' penal servitude for stealing £6600, the funds of the "Workmen's Club Building Society. The books of the society had practically been unaudited for 17 years. Mr Fiveash, the society's auditor, has, since the exposures, committed suicide.
