BUSINESS TRANSACTED

In 'reference to ihe proposal from the Foxton Harbour Board that the Council should make a new road to the"- Foxton Beach, the Chairman pointed out that the matter was of considerable importance to Foxton. On a' recent visit to the Beach he found there about 350 people, all of whom would draw their supplies from Foxton. The best course would be to raise a loan for the work, the Foxton Borough Council, to contribute a certain proportion of the amount required. "

Members of the Council concurred with this view, and it was* decided to approach the Foxton Borough Council on the matter.

In regard to the question of the drainage of the area of land near the fending borough, on the Awahuri road tho Chairman explained that Mr Darragh had stated he would be • t £?'?•,£? nave a loan floated if "Mr E J. Riddiford was willing to allow the creek to be cleaned out. He (the Ohairman) had written to Mr Riddiford and explained that the Council was willing to take the obstruction from the creek and asking for permission to make a cut into the creek for the purpose of putting the water there which now went iri'to the creek by another route, and asking if he would be willing 'to,join in authorisp%JTgof raisin a loan. AVhen Mr Riddiford replied, the Chairman' wrote stating he (Mr Riddiford) had misconceived the position. No more water was going to be put into the creek and instead of havinohis land damaged it would do it good It was advisable that the Council should consider the cleaning up of the -viakino a„ its junction with the Mangaone, but it would be ridiculous to consider the erection of a stop-bank by tbe_ Council. Mr Riddiford had not yet replied to his second letter, tie Had also communicated with Air Darragh in reference to the proposal to take.-« pieceoHand to cut an open channel- Mangaone to enable ■■the-water-..t0 he got away. Mr Da- l--rash had not- vet replied The Engineer said the'cost of the cut from Barretts, if it were covered m, would be about £200, but it would be very much less if it were an open
